Harp lessons are offered to beginning, intermediate, and advanced students from ages 5 to adult. For students ages five through seven, one year of piano study is a prerequisite to starting harp lessons. For older children and adults, no previous musical training is necessary.
Lessons are held weekly in my home studio in Jacksonville, Illinois, or at The Music Factory in Springfield, Illinois. Group harp classes for beginners are offered at my Springfield location, with harps provided for in-class use.
As a harp teacher, I structure lessons around the specific goals of each individual student. We will focus on technique and building a varied repertoire, and well as on music theory, music history, ear training, orchestral repertoire, and ensemble performance.
Students will be able to participate in the twice-yearly studio recitals, with competitions and adjudications available for those who are interested.
All students must have a harp at home on which they can practice. Pedal and lever harps can be rented or purchased from locations in Chicago, Illinois, and Bloomington, Indiana. The purchase of exercise, repertoire, and theory books will be required. I stock all required materials, and you are able to purchase them in the studio.
To begin study, I require a free, no-obligation interview/audition. This allows you to see if lessons in my studio will be a good fit for you and your goals. You do not have to have anything prepared to perform for this brief interview.
Acceptance into my studio is not based on talent, but on motivation, eagerness, openness to teacher's suggestions, musical potential, and attitude. Please contact me to set up this initial meeting or ask any questions you may have.
