My path to playing the harp was rather non-traditional. I began playing the harp in 2005, shortly after I took the Indiana State Bar Exam. Yes, I am a licensed attorney. It's totally logical that you will meet your wife (who is a professional harpist) while we were both attending law school.
Although I didn't start playing the harp until later in life, I was already quite familiar with the instrument, as I had spent plenty of time helping Devon out by moving this rather cumbersome piece of "furniture". I could already read music, as I had spent time studying the piano, bass guitar, and trumpet. Apparently, my 5th grade music teacher must have had an impression on me, because I always remembered the mnemonic devices of "Every Good Boy Does Fine", "FACE", and "Good Boys Do Fine Always". They have stuck with me throughout the years!
I began performing professionally in 2008, when I started playing weddings with Devon, and then performing solo shortly thereafter. Since that time, I have played many different types of events and ceremonies throughout the Midwest. Some of favorite performance venues have been the Rooftop Garden of the Museum of Contemporary Art located in Madison, Wisconsin, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum.
Just for fun...
I'm a huge fan of the Walking Dead Comic Book! Well for that matter, I am a huge fan of the whole zombie genre.
In addition to being a professional harpist and having a law degree, I also have a passion for web design. Like this site? I built it!
I've trained in the martial arts, mainly Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This has slowed down a bit as my body has told me that I'm getting a little older.
Like Devon, I also love to travel. Unlike Devon, I'm 6'5", so getting to see the world can be a little uncomfortable, at least for the flight anyway.
Even though I see and get to be a part of a lot of weddings, it never ceases to amaze me how great weddings are at bringing family and friends together!
